This journey was Kirill's attempt to share his childhood experiences with the family. So we started with a visit to the
Mir castle and then with a 4-day trek to the
Naliboki Pushcha (primeval forest) - one of the last remaining great European forests. We slept in tents, gathered and prepared mushrooms and wild berries, not once lost our way, were bitten by a lot of mosquitoes and all had a great time. After a short break we drove to the north of Belarus to a 2-day trek into
Yelnya Bog - the largest bog in Central Europe - a very wet but unique experience where we also understood the difference between a swamp and a bog :-) From there we proceeded for a 4-day R&R in a very nice house on the shore of one of the
Braslaw lakes. When we got back to Minsk we visited all the historic (for Kirill) places - house, school, CS faculty and spent some very nice time just strolling in the city center.
We spent the second part of the journey in
Kaliningrad (former Konigsberg) region where Kirill used to spent his summer vacations. We walked in the old part of the city and spent a couple of days in Baltic sea resorts of Zelenogradsk (former Cranz) and Svetlogorsk (Rauschen) and even succeeded to persuade the kids to swim in [very cold] Baltic sea! Enjoy!
